Undergraduate Research Minor

Earn a Minor in Undergraduate Research

Open to all undergraduate students on the Bolivar campus, the minor in undergraduate research will enhance your undergraduate experience. In this minor, you will learn the basic skills needed for research, you will acquire research techniques that will help you design a project, you will perform an original research project for at least two semesters, and you will present your findings to the students and faculty at the ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç Undergraduate Research Symposium. During this experience, you will be mentored by a faculty member who is an expert in your field of study. Under their supervision, you will identify a gap in knowledge in your area and contribute toward filling that gap.

The minor in undergraduate research will provide you with a unique skill set that will make you a desirable candidate for various careers, graduate schools, and professional schools. In addition, the minor will allow you to explore the prospect of a career in research in your field.

Faith Integration

Research is an opportunity to learn more about the way that God designed the world, created people with unique backgrounds and cultures, established scientific laws, and instilled creativity and art in human beings. Faculty encourage the integration of their faith in the exploration of research projects. Integrity will be of upmost importance in performing research in a manner that is consistent with Biblical principles.

Minor in Undergraduate Research

Students who perform undergraduate research at ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç will have the opportunity to complete the Minor in Undergraduate Research along with their declared major. Open to all undergraduate students on the Bolivar campus, the Minor in Undergraduate Research teaches students how to perform research and provides an avenue for them to complete a project and present their findings. The Minor is composed of four components:

Skill Building

Classes that fit this component provide the most general skills needed to perform research across all fields. Students will choose an applicable class from the statistics and communication categories.

 

 

ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç Students working with HeLa cells

 

Research Techniques

The class from this component will teach students research concepts and strategies for designing a research project of high quality.
 
 
 
 
 

ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç Students at Sigma Zeta Conference

 

Applied Research

In this component, students will have the opportunity to implement original research in their area under the mentorship of a faculty member.

Presentation

For the final component, students will present their findings at the ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç Undergraduate Research Symposium held in the spring semester.
