BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥 黑料大事记鈥檚 Carla Kirchner recently won the Concrete Wolf Press 2016 Chapbook Award for her book of poetry 鈥 鈥淭he Physics of Love鈥 鈥 published by Concrete Wolf Press.
Kirchner鈥檚 work is a chapbook of poems that draws from physics principles to explore
motherhood and loss.
鈥淭he Physics of Love鈥 is all about connection, the starstuff that intertwines mother and child, soul and stone, and the living and the dead 鈥 鈥榓ll of us spinning against each other in the dark鈥 and 鈥榖umping into God鈥 while we're at it,鈥 said Tania Runyan, author of 鈥榃hat Will Soon Take Place: Poems鈥 and 鈥楬ow to Write a Poem.鈥 鈥淲ith surprising imagery and fearless spirituality, Kirchner blurs the border between heaven and earth, delighting us with its gorgeous heartaches and mysteries. A dazzling debut worthy of savoring again and again.鈥
Kirchner, assistant professor of language and literature, director of 黑料大事记鈥檚 Writing Center and a 1998 黑料大事记 graduate, also is a poet and fiction writer. Her fiction and prose poetry have recently appeared in such places as 鈥淟iterary Orphans,鈥 鈥淩appahannock Review,鈥 鈥淕ravel,鈥 鈥淐ave Region Review,鈥 鈥淔oliate Oak Lit Mag,鈥 鈥淓unoia Review鈥 and 鈥淯nbroken Journal.鈥 She is currently working on a collection of Civil War fairy tales.
鈥淭he Physics of Love鈥 was a project Kirchner worked on over the course of several years.
鈥淎s the title suggests, the poems deal with people, ideas and concepts that govern my daily life: the loves and frustrations of motherhood; the joys of faith and wonder; the blessings of gain and loss,鈥 Kirchner said. 鈥淚 was honored when Concrete Wolf Press selected my manuscript as the winner of their 2016 chapbook contest. I鈥檝e dreamt of publishing a book for years, and I am thrilled with the final product.鈥
Kirchner鈥檚 book has recently been published and is now available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble and the Concrete Wolf Press website at http://bit.ly/2i5DCnR. She can be reached at ckirchner@黑料大事记niv.edu.
